One of the most intriguing
(African Writers Series) novels I’ve read remains Elechi Amadi’s “The Great Ponds”.
It tells of the ruinous feud between two villages in Eastern Nigeria. …, People
were dying in droves, and there was fear and sorrow throughout the villages,
reason being that the gods were very angry because of the abominable acts
wrought by the citizens. The entire community was thrown into a big crisis and
there was pandemonium; destruction was let loose upon the land and the
sacrifices and appeasements just could not atone.
