Vaginal Yeast Infection – Symptoms & How to Treat With Garlic

Yeast infections are very stubborn, and characterised as single-celled fungi that reproduce asexually by budding or division. The stubborn agent, candida albicans can constitute a health problem that can be inimical to the overall health of the individual and that is why it is a very important health subject matter. It is a parasitic fungus that can infect the mouth or the skin or the intestines, and also the vagina; thus yeast infections can be found in various parts of the body.

But there are potent natural remedies you can use such as garlic, to deal with this problem. Garlic is capable of staving off and destroying loads of yeast infection and bacteria, etc. Some vital studies carried out in China proved that garlic does really restrain the growth of all the following microorganisms: Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus vulgaris, Staphylococcus aureus, Mycobacterium phlei, Streptococcus faecalis, Bacillus cereus and Micrococcus luteus.

Vaginal candidiasis is vaginal yeast; it is a fungus that lives in the vagina in small numbers under normal circumstances. An infection therefore occurs when the yeast develops to the extent that there are too many yeast cells building up in the vagina; experts say though most of these infections can be well treated, they nevertheless may manifest highly annoying and sometimes unbearable symptoms.

Signs & Symptoms                                                                                                              The symptoms of (vaginal) yeast however, may include a number of physical signs such as:
  • Itching, soreness, and overall discomfort in the vaginal area.
  • Pain or burning during urination or sex.
  • Thick (like cottage cheese), white discharge in the vagina. It is however important to note that not all women experience this particular symptom.
While doctors, scientists and herbal or natural cure practitioners are battling to have a firm grip of these infections, you would want to consider the following potential causative factors as they may vary for different reasons.

Causes                                                                                                                               Vaginal (Yeast) Infections may be caused by one of or a combination of various factors such as: the use of Antibiotics, Menstruation, Birth control, existing Medical conditions, Pregnancy, and general Health situations.

Infected areas of the vagina

Antibiotics: If you have taken antibiotics for a long period of time an imbalance in the vaginal environment can result. This may very well lead to yeast infection in the vagina because antibiotics used in this way has the ability to kill off most of the useful bacteria in your body including those that prevent the overgrowth of yeast such as Lactobacillus acidophilus.

Menstruation: Many women very likely will develop yeast during the time of their menstruation or period i.e. if they experience any of the symptoms mentioned earlier.

Birth control: Birth control pills have also been found to be culprits in vaginal yeast infections, especially the one-time "morning after" pills; they easily cause a change in the hormonal levels of the individual’s body thereby yielding itself to infection.

Existing medical conditions: It is important to note that research has confirmed that some underlying medical conditions such as HIV and diabetes for example, can cause one to develop yeast infections also.

Pregnancy: During pregnancy hormonal changes do occur, and this condition makes yeast infection very easy to develop since the process of pregnancy is able to alter the natural environment of the vagina and render it vulnerable.

General health: Several general health situations and lifestyles are able to make one come down with yeast infections: some of these situations may be - Ill health, poor sleeping habits, overweight, and stress, etc.
Garlic - a potent natural antibiotic

Treatment                                                                                                                            Since garlic has been known for centuries to be a very active natural antibiotic, it has been effectively used to treat infections such as this. Depending on the degree of infection, you should be able to ascertain what level of treatment to administer. Judy Slome Cohain, CNM, is a health professional who runs All the Way Homebirth practice in Israel since 1983; she says “Garlic kills yeast. Those who bake bread know not to add garlic while the dough is rising or it will kill the yeast. Instead, garlic is added to the dough after it has risen, just before baking it in the oven.”
Take a sizable clove of garlic and remove the covering, and insert into the vagina over night. If the infection is high - sometimes causing severe itching and, or soreness at the lips, then you will need to give a higher dose of treatment such as: After peeling off the outer covering of the garlic, slice it so that the raw cut flesh of it is exposed to the wall of the vagina on insertion. Leave it also over the night. Better still, you may want to fasten a string to the clove of garlic for easy removal the following morning. These treatments should be given for a number of days as you watch your healing come forth.

Treating yeast with garlic

If you can, the best way to ensure a speedy cure is to identify the infection quickly enough and treat in like manner. Very importantly too, you should make use of fresh cloves of garlic for your treatment. At the end of each night ensure to remove the clove of garlic and throw away. Note that if you employ a ‘high dose’ treatment to a healthy vagina, it easily burns the skin and so you must know what your requirement is, and what works for you. Also, ensure you do not douche for whatever reason; do not bathe frequently with warm or hot water for yeasts love warm environments. Finally, you are advised to sun your underwear after washing or iron if it did not dry in the presence of hot sunlight so as to prevent re-infection.

  1. There can be several kind of vaginal infections that should be treated timely, but isn’t it necessary to know how to prevent such diseases beforehand? I just came to know that maintaining personal hygiene can actually help avert blue waffles disease much easily.
