Sleeplessness or insomnia is a
big problem throughout the world. Today there is even a growing concern more
than ever before on how the lack of adequate sleep has, or is becoming a big
nightmare for many; this is however made worse by the rise in debilitating
health conditions that affect a good measure of today’s population be they
urban or rural, but especially the elderly. Some of these health conditions may
include stress, high blood pressure, etc. The good news however, is that
research has gone far into the causes and possible solutions to this problem. Most
importantly we have available to us the use of natural approaches to remedying
sleeplessness chiefly among these includes exercise.

Inability to sleep |
Using exercise to achieving ‘good’
sleep is one that has not been fully exploited but recent researches have
confirmed that it is able to make you sleep better. Experts say although the
exact mechanisms on how exercise works are not well known, but the fact remains
that studies have shown that exercise significantly improves the sleep of
people with chronic insomnia! According to National Sleep Foundation, USA, Aerobic exercise improves
self-reported sleep and quality of life in older adults with insomnia.

The effects of insomnia |
Experts say that
generally if you embark on at least twenty minutes of exercise before bed time each
day especially in the mornings or evening periods, you should be able to get
improved night rest. It is also true that people who are regularly doing
exercise perhaps on a daily basis tend to usually have better sleep than those
who do not.

Worrying about sleeplessness |
According to a clinical psychologist and sleep researcher at the Feinberg School of
Medicine at North-western University, Kelly Glazer Baron, the process might not be very quick or immediate
but you do have good results: She says about the original study they carried
out, “It took four
months”; that the sleep volunteers “were sleeping at least 45 minutes more a
night.” “That’s huge, as good as or better” than most current treatment options
for sleep disturbances, including the use of medicines for sleep, she concluded.

Try exercising to sleep better |
The reasons why
exercise will work for you are simply because it helps you to relax; exercise
relieves you of tension, stimulates your heart and lungs, as well as relaxes
your muscles. Furthermore, exercise increases the sharpness of your brain
thereby making available more oxygen for your use; it also increases your body’s
production of endorphins which brings about a feeling of goodness while
increasing the body’s resistance to pain.
Invariably, lack of good sleep and, lack of adequate amount of it definitely
will affect your heart adversely due to accumulated stress and tension in the
long run, and this is not what you want. So, be sure to keep at the exercises
on a regular routine basis. Please do let us know your mind or experiences.
