How to Resolve Rumbling Stomach

Most at times when people observe some unusual (rumbling) noise emanating from their stomach, Nigerians are quick to conclude it must be worm infestation. Sometimes they will simply say “oh, my stomach must be dirty and so I need to take some purgative or, I need to ‘deworm’ myself”. The issue is not so much as to whether it is wrong or right to ‘deworm’ yourself or take some kind of purge medicine. But the main problem is that most people simply do not get to understand what exactly is going on in their stomach.

The fact is that the occasional noise or rumbling you hear coming from your stomach most of the time is not necessarily a danger signal or anything to panic about; it’s what is referred to medically as borborygmus. Medical experts and researchers have done a lot to make us understand this phenomenon and know how to approach it by way of prevention or treatment. When you hear or feel this rumbling again in your tummy, just remember that it simply means that there is a movement of gas coupled with a contraction of the intestinal muscles, or peristaltic movement of the bowel. Though this will usually have its underlying reasons but may not necessarily be anything too serious most of the time.

Causes of rumbling stomach

Hunger: A good percentage of the times you experience rumbling is clearly indicative of the fact that you are hungry. Your system is simply signaling through your brain to your intestines and stomach, that they are empty and you need to refill, or fill up your tank.

Digestion: Sometimes you hear your stomach rumbling just a few moments after you have had a meal depending on the kind of food you ate of course. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this as well. It only means that your food is being broken down for your body to be able to use it. This is the process of digestion or combustion, at which food is being burned up as it were, or in the case of unfinished digestion whereby bacteria living in the intestinal tract come to participate in the process. But it is not all the time that you get to hear the noise of this process, but like I said, it also depends on the kind of meal or drink that you took, as some foods and beverages are more likely to produce gas than others.

Yawning could mean hunger, and a rumbling tummy

Aerophagia: This condition refers to having too much air in the stomach. This happens usually with people who eat hastily, an action that makes one take in so much air while eating or drinking. Sometimes people who are under stress and anxiety are also prone to this condition which is usually followed by belching, tummy discomfort and flatulence.

Green Tea Health Benefits

A lot has been said about tea in general, and we have come to know the many health benefits as well as some of the misgivings relating to the fact that tea, especially (black) tea has some caffeine in it even as it has been established to be a health promoter. But today I want to deal with the more or less not so popular of the types of teas we have people drinking all over the world for some very unique healthful reasons; and that is green tea. One of the basic and most important aspects of tea in general is that tea contains antioxidants and a well known stimulant - caffeine. The great news about green tea however is that it contains the highest quantity of the all important natural food substance called antioxidants.

Another very important aspect of green tea advantages over the other varieties of tea is that it contains the least content of caffeine and as such it is not a problem to caffeine sensitive persons.  But let us now take a more general look at the specific health benefits of consuming green tea, and how to properly make use of green tea in order to achieve the following very vital health benefits.

Green tea fights cancer

Latest researches on this subject indicate that green tea has the capability to deal strongly with, and inhibit cancer cells of all types. But most importantly, green tea has been discovered to kill off cancerous cells that eventually could lead to oral cancer or cancer of the mouth. Sometimes this manifests as a malignant neoplasm of the lips of the mouth and it is most prevalent among men of over 60 years of age. The research suggests that if you consume green tea more often, it is able to protect you from especially oral cancer because certain compounds found in green tea triggers off an attack that hastens the death of cancerous cells.

Boosts immunity & brain power

The powerful compound in green tea is the antioxidant called Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG), as well as some small minerals that are very vital to health. This power built into this drink is therefore able to protect you from frequent illness and diseases; hence your immune system is strengthened by you drinking green tea regularly. It also contains the amino acid, L-theanine which is capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier. This important amino acid is said to have a synergistic action with caffeine to create a very potent brain function in you.

The Great Health Benefits of Yoghourt

Curd, which is popularly called Yoghourt, is made from milk and has been found to be a very healthy food (drink) for the entire family and population. This wonderful dairy food product is made from fermented milk and has been discovered to be a highly refreshing and therapeutic drink and food. Yoghourt is prepared from the milk of cow especially in Europe and America, and also in Nigeria, while in India, buffalo milk is the most treasured. In Russia however, the milk of sheep, goats and mare are largely used for this purpose for the production of yoghourt.

Nourishing Fresh Yoghourt

How to Produce Yoghourt
In preparing yoghourt, the purest and best quality milk is used - the milk is boiled for about ten minutes, brought down to be cooled to a lukewarm temperature before it is curdled for making your delicious product and health food. After this, freshly cultured starter is added to the milk and mixed very well; about one teaspoonful of starter is always enough for a quantity of 500 ml. of milk. The all important starter is actually a culture containing yeast or a bacterium that is used to start the process of fermentation or souring in making our yoghourt. This same form of active micro organisms are also added in the processes that are involved in the making of butter or cheese, or dough for baking bread, etc.

It takes between 8 to 16 hours for the milk to curdle very well depending on the temperature of the environment in which you are working. In cold weather you might even need to cover the milk with a thick blanket and store in a warm place at the same time to help it; it will thus take a longer time to curdle or coagulate to a firm mass of curd – say about 12 to 16 hours. But in hot weather, the milk will normally take a shorter time to curdle – like 6 to 8 hours will be needed for a good formation.

Thus, yoghourt is formed simply by the mixing of bacteria and milk, hence we know that naturally, there are good bacteria as well that are required for the enhancement and preservation of the quality of life of man. Some of these good bacteria are the same that live in or co-habit with animals and human beings at various parts of the body. In reality, they are a beneficial set of bacteria that are found in the intestinal tract of healthy mammals, experts say; they also are often considered to be, or classified as a form of plant life. They are therefore known as probiotics or probiotic flora.

How to Use Acupressure to Treat Stress

For many centuries the Chinese have been engaged in traditional medicine that is very unique and highly effective. Oriental medical art as I would love to refer to this brand of medical health practice, has since soared beyond the borders of even the Asian continent to Europe, the Americas, and even the rest of the world. Acupressure is an art of healing derived from the world famous Acupuncture. Acupuncture being a well known traditional Chinese medical health practice, has been well adopted, and adapted to modern western medicine.

I am not going to be dealing with this ancient Chinese healing practice, but rather, we shall be borrowing an aspect of that same medical art to see how it has been possible to achieve relief and also healing for stress and stress related conditions – a process known as acupressure.

Acupressure points on the feet

Acupressure thus borrows from acupuncture in that it has to do with the ‘manipulation’ of the particular points or acu-points on the body that are linked to various organs of the body in order to achieve wellness, except that needles are not applied. These points are found everywhere on the body; you find them on the feet, hands, palm, head, neck, buttocks, chest, back, legs, etc. The points are referred to as acupressure points whereby they are massaged or manipulated for a proper flow or circulation of blood in the system, and to the vital organs concerned. It is on this philosophy and fact that acupressure has also emerged as a practical and proven means of administering natural healing and relief to so many ailments including stress.

Acupressure therefore is the treatment of symptoms by applying pressure with the fingers to specific pressure points on the body. These points as I stated earlier, are linked to vital organs in the body which equally respond to the manipulations, such as the kidney, heart, brain, gall bladder, eyes, spleen, stomach, and pericardium, etc. According to the founder of the Acupressure Institute in Berkeley, California - Michael Reed Gach, M.D, two points at the back of your neck known as ‘Gates of the Mind’ can relieve you of stress and give you clarity of mind when manipulated correctly. He says for instance, if you press these points you can get rid of, or prevent an impending headache.

Six Natural Ways to Prevent Cancer

By now you must have discovered for yourselves that cancer is so serious a health issue that cannot be dismissed with just one explanation; from my previous write-ups on this matter, you will easily know that the scourge of cancer generally is just as complicated as the question of the causative factors. Just as we worry and ponder on the issue of the cause(s) of cancer, so have health and medical experts, researchers and even nutritionists, continued endlessly to work on the possible cures and other solutions to this highly dreaded disease.

Plant diet
And just as there are numerous forms of cancer, so also are there so many factors that researchers have so far identified to be the causes, as well as preventive measures against this debilitating health condition. So far, it will seem as if there are neither cures nor effective available treatments, but we should know that nature in its goodness has at the same time freely provided us with both the knowledge of preventive solutions as well as natural remedies towards the handling of cancer.

Prevention though being the better option, but in the case of an onset of the cancer, there is hope still going by what nature has freely provided for us in order to deal with cancer and other chronic diseases which most of the time, experts have attributed to life style, and especially diet related. The following steps are what you ought to know.

  1. Consume more of Plant Foods
My number one advice will be for you to turn to nature. I am not advocating a completely vegetarian way of life, but then if need be, go ahead. But very importantly is the fact that you are bound to avail yourself abundantly of the good load of antioxidants and other phyto-nutrients that are needed for the effective combating of free radicals and other disease causing agents in and around your body. And while you are at it, you should endeavour to eat ‘the rainbow’. This means in a way, to consume variety of plants of the various colours, for this naturally implies that they possess different nutrients. This practice will immensely build up your immune levels.

  1. Eat less of Meat
Of course when God created man he (man) did not set out immediately to start consuming flesh of animals. And so, from the very beginning it was never so. Nature has always been the safest way to go obviously. Scientific proofs however, have it that too much of meat consumption can be cancerous; therefore it is only wise that you curtail your meat consumption, especially red meat such as beef.

  1. Consume less of Processed Foods
On the issue of processed foods, it has become highly evident that processed foods are denatured food products; most of the food’s healing constituents as well as the other critical valuable properties are lost from foods in the process of refining them. The process of refinement perhaps became necessary because of the need for packaging and even preservation of these food items. But unfortunately vital food nutrients are being denied you and me when we end up consuming these kinds of foods.

Inflammation has been found to be the cause of most chronic diseases like diabetes, obesity, heart disease and cancer; processed foods, sugary foods and animal proteins in turn are the major culprits that are linked to inflammations in the system. For instance, fibre is lost; the full potency of the medicinal properties is depleted. Also, another reason for you to go slow on processed foods is due to the fact that artificial preservatives, colourants, sweeteners, and other additives are used to prepare these foods. These above mentioned stuffs are undoubtedly injurious to our health, and some are definitely carcinogenic food additives in the long run, that is.
