The Healing Powers of Cabbage

Cabbage is a very popular vegetable that is eaten all over the world. It is a leafy vegetable that contains highly valuable food nutrients such as – high amount of minerals, vitamins and alkaline salts contents. Cabbage can be prepared and eaten in various ways including - eating it raw in the form of salad; it can be boiled, or even cooked with other ingredients and eaten as a whole meal. But research has shown that cabbage is better eaten raw since a good amount of its vital food nutrients are lost in the process of cooking or heating.

When cabbage is eaten raw it is also more easily digested by the human system, whereas the cooked one is not exactly so, or rather the longer it is cooked, the less easily it is digested. Also, the cabbage with a mix of green fleshly leaves is more nutritious because of its higher content of vitamin A.
It goes without saying therefore that cabbage contains the following rich food properties for which this vegetable is highly valued. Apart from being stuffed with the food values such as Carbohydrates, Minerals, Fibre, Fat, Protein, and moisture, it also contains essential minerals and vitamins such as – Calcium, Phosphorus, Iron, Vitamin C, and a bit of Vitamin B complex, with a calorific value of 27.

As a result of all of these great endowments that are evident in cabbage, this wonderful vegetable is able to greatly enrich the human system due to a whole lot of natural benefits and the enormous amount of curative properties it possesses.

For example, it is rich in cleansing and reducing properties that are inherent in its sulphur and chlorine contents which sanitize the mucous membrane and the intestinal tracts; it is also known to be rich in iodine which also is necessary for the health of your thyroid and therefore highly needed in the prevention of the thyroid disease called goiter.

However, these benefits are more accessible and beneficial to your system when cabbage or its juice is taken raw without adding any salt to it. Also, be sure to consume this vegetable only in moderate quantities for it is the only way to achieve the maximum nutritious benefits from this health food. Aside all of these, cabbage has also been found very effective in the treatment of infections, ulcers and other digestive tract problems.
