Detoxify with Daily Immune Boosters

Have you sometimes noticed that when you eat a heavy dose of green vegetables, say in your soup, it tends to purge you? Well, your body was only trying to enlighten you on a few nutritional facts regarding dark green vegetable (foods) that you ought to know. It has been proven over the ages that green superfoods can do a lot of system cleansing and set your body free of free radicals and toxins. Professor Adebukunola O. Adefule Ositelu, is a renowned Nigerian University Don, and Professor emeritus of the University of Lagos. She has recently formulated a research which has revealed a natural immune booster that is present in a local green vegetable or herb called Ewedu. The Ewedu (plant) leaf is consumed enormously especially in the western parts of Nigeria as a vegetable in traditional cookery. Ewedu is a flowering herb and the leaves are eaten throughout most of West Africa in sauces and soups but have not been widely known to boost immunity.

The plant, which is also referred to as corchorus olitorius in Latin, is also known as kren-kren among certain folks. Its leaves have usually long been used to treat measles among traditional societies; it is also used widely in Yoruba land of Nigeria in aiding pregnant women who are nearing full term to child delivery. In this wise, it is specially prepared and taken as a delivery and labour enhancing herb so that many of these women are able to put to bed just like the Hebrew women as it were.

Ewedu can be used as an immune booster in this remedy formula according to Professor Ositelu: Take enough quantity of Ewedu leaves, rinse and wash it with liquid vinegar, then you blend it with clean water and cook for just five minutes. Take it first thing in the morning before any other thing, freshly made about 25cl of the herb in an empty stomach once a week for prevention of illness and as an immune boosting remedy. Apart from Ewedu (corchorus olitorius), all well known chlorophyll foods will detoxify, cleanse and boost your body’s immune system. 


Some very rich chlorophyll foods include – Ugu leaves which is very popular among the Igbos in Nigeria. The Ugu, a popular green leafy vegetable is known to be very rich in iron content, and is variously referred to as Fluted pumpkin leaves.

Very good chlorophyll supplements can also be found, and they are available in health food shops just in case you are not able to prepare your own home-made diet of high chlorophyll cookery. They are well known Green Superfoods, and specifically prepared for your well being as dietary supplements. To cleanse and boost your body’s immune system therefore, the following list of supplements will do you a lot of good: Wheat grass, Barley grass, Alfalfa, Chlorella, Spirulina, and Blue/green algae.
